What happens when the GOP takes over a state legislature


Well, first of all, it's no longer the people's legislature, if it ever was.

Mission accomplished!  The Iowa Legislature's 2017 session, which convenes in January, could mark the first time since 1998 that Republicans have had majorities in both the Senate and House and held the governor's office at the same time. This will give the GOP full control over the state budget and legislative policies and eliminates the possibility that Democrats can block conservative bills.

A behind-closed-doors conference call with 29 Iowa Senate Republicans.  Walker sent a tweet after the meeting which said, "Happy to speak to my friends in the Iowa Legislature via Skype. They have a chance to pass big, bold reforms!"
