CES 2016: DJI Phanton 3 (My favorite of the lot, so far)

I think I may have found my drone.

Mentioned in the slide show, The 2016 CES Report: The Trend Behind the Trend.  (Innovation Excellence)

But first, some research.

Want To Buy a Drone? – 5 Things You Should Know Before You Buy.  (myfirstdrone.com, 10/19/2015)
  1. Not all drones are easy to fly
    • flight controller inside keeps it stable
    • price vs. ease-of-use curve (0 to 10 from $0 to $1000)
    • lists 4 of the easiest to fly drones
  2. Not all drones are ready to fly
    • RTF = ready to fly, no assembly or setup required
    • BNF = bind-and-fly, assembled but no controller
    • ARF = almost ready to fly, a quadcopter kit
  3. You need to make investments upfront
    • controller
    • charger
    • research (don't rush your purchase)
  4. There's a ton of places to buy from (includes 10 recommendations_
  5.  You need to be party of a drone community (list of 8 recommended online forums)
This review currently has a 3.3 out of 5 stars rating.  I wonder if some of the reviewers are know-it-all dicks.  (Sometimes people will even look down on you, just because you asked a stupid question.  As noted in section 5.)

Next stop:  For Dummies.

As for reviews, the standard model currently has a 4.3 rating at Amazon.

At least one person didn't do any research.  Best impulse buy ever.

The advanced model, higher up on the price vs. ease-of-use curve does a little better.

Bottom line:  Still need to raise my confidence level before making a purchase.  My impulse-purchase days are long gone.
